Funeral arrangements set for teen victim of Kentucky ambulance accident

GRAY, Ky. (WATE) - School officials have identified the 14-year-old boy hit and killed by an ambulance in Knox County, Kentucky Saturday night.

Knox County school administrators say Samson Callendar was killed in the accident. He was a freshman at Lynn Camp High School.

Counselors were available for students at the school Monday.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 25E near Lynn Camp Church Road.

According to the preliminary report, the ambulance was traveling north with a patient, when it dropped off the edge of the roadway, striking three juveniles who were riding their bikes in the median.

Callendar was killed. The other two were injured and taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by O'Neill-Lawson Funeral Home in downtown Corbin. Visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The funeral service will follow at the funeral home's chapel.
