JEFFERSON CITY (WATE) - A Jefferson County deputy was arrested Tuesday and accused of bringing drugs and tobacco to inmates in the county jail.

Sheriff Bud McCoig says he received information in June that Deputy Aaron Scott Winstead, 20, was bringing contraband into the jail. He observed Winstead on June 25 bringing in tobacco and Suboxone.

Winstead was relieved of duty. Sheriff McCoig then called the TBI to assist in the investigation.

Winstead was charged by a grand jury on Monday with attempted introduction of contraband into a penal facility, possession of suboxone with intent to deliver and official misconduct.

He was arrested on Tuesday and released on $10,000 bond. A court date is set for September 15.
