MEMPHIS (AP) - Prosecutors say a Memphis man with 21 prior criminal convictions has been found guilty of stealing a car belonging to a disabled veteran.

The Shelby County district attorney's office says Walter Shegog was convicted Thursday of felony theft of property under $10,000 for stealing a Ford Mustang in September 2012, after pretending to be an interested car buyer.

The 55-year-old Shegog responded to a for-sale advertisement and agreed to meet the car's 65-year-old owner at the Memphis Veterans Hospital.

Instead of taking a test drive, Shegog drove off in the vehicle and did not return. He was arrested two days later.

Shegog faces a sentence of up to 12 years in prison at sentencing Sept. 24.
