KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Tennessee coaches received commitments from 21 high school players Tuesday, the national college football signing day. That's the first day high school players can finalize their commitment to a school by signing a national letter of intent.
Headlining UT's list is Chattanooga's Jacques McClendon, a PARADE All-America offensive lineman who is rated the fourth best offensive guard by ESPN's Tom Lemming.
In all, UT received commitments from prospects in a dozen different states, but a couple are from close to home.
Tight end Lee Smith is from Powell. His father is Daryle Smith, who played at offensive tackle for the Vols from 1984-86.
Tailback Dustin Lindsey is from Alcoa.
Another signee, is also the son of a former UT player. Chad Cunningham of Dawsonville, Ga., is the son of Rory Cunningham, who played for the Vols as an offensive guard from 1979-81. Chad is considered to be one of the nation's to kicker prospects.
Defensive end Walter Fisher, was already on board after enrolling in January.
But one commitment got away. Tight end Michael Goggans switched his commitment and signed with Auburn.
