Carson-Newman's 20 signees expected to carry on football tradition

JEFFERSON CITY (WATE) -- The Carson-Newman Eagles, traditionally one of the country's top NCAA Division II football teams, signed 20 high school players Wednesday.

In a statement released by the athletic department, head coach Ken Sparks said, "We are excited about this outstanding group of young men who will join our team. We believe this is a high-quality group of student-athletes who will be able to fill some of the needs we will have on our team in 2006. This group also has one of the highest collective grade point averages we have had in some time. I appreciate their trust in us and look forward to having them join our program."

The Eagles ended the 2005 season at 8-2 in 2005 and ranked #21 in NCAA Division II.
