KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Investigators with the Knoxville Police Department and the Knox County Sheriff's Office are searching for a missing woman after her boyfriend was found murdered Sunday afternoon.
Officers and family members are looking for Channon Christian, 21. She's 5'9", 129 pounds, blue eyes and light brown hair.
Family members say she's been missing since Saturday night.
Investigators say her boyfriend, Christopher Newsom, 23, was murdered. They have not released the cause of death.
Police received a call about Newsom's body being found along the railroad tracks near 9th Avenue a little after noon on Sunday.
"We always tell him be careful, you know," said Newsom's father, Hugh. His family received the devastating news that their son, a 2002 Halls High graduate, had been murdered.
Police Sgt. Tim Snoderly, a family friend, came to the Newsom's house.
"When he walked in the door, he said it's Chris. Of course that just broke our heart because we still had hope that we would find him alive," Hugh said.
Police say Christopher was last seen with Channon Christian on Saturday night at a friend's house at the Washington Ridge apartments. They were going to dinner, then to another friend's house to watch movies.
They never made it to that house.
Hugh Newsom added, "We never think in terms of him being murdered. It just didn't cross our mind."
Channon Christian's car was found in the area where Christopher's body was found. Family members and police searched all day Monday, along with a sheriff's helicopter.
Channon is a UT student set to graduate this year.
Sgt. Snoderly told 6 News, "We're all hoping for the best right now. We're hoping that we are able to find her and that she is still alive."
Hugh Newsom said the couple had been together since November.
"And I think they possibly had a future ahead of them. And they were very fond of each other and it's just so unfortunate that it ended this way."
