Bradley Co. grand jury returns murder indictment in slaying of co-worker

June 14, 2007

CLEVELAND (AP) -- A Bradley County grand jury has returned a murder indictment against a man already charged with abuse of a corpse in the slaying of a co-worker found buried in a shallow grave.

A Sheriff's Department statement says the grand jury Wednesday charged Scotty Lee Myers with first degree murder in the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Pamela Jo Lane.

Lane disappeared May 4 and relatives in South Carolina reported her missing. Her body was discovered June 1, buried at the edge of a cemetery. An autopsy report shows she was shot once in the head.

Myers was arrested in late May in Panama City, Florida. Bradley County Sheriff's Department spokesman Bob Gault says information provided by him led investigators to the body.

Gault said the previous charge of abusing a corpse stemmed from the improper transport and burial of the victim's body.

A Cleveland police report shows a manager at a used pallet company in March named the two as employees who were suspects in an alleged embezzlement of $33,000.
