KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Gov. Bredesen married state Sen. Tim Burchett (R-Knoxville) and Allison Beaver in a last minute ceremony in Knoxville Tuesday.

The pair were wed at the John T. O'Connor Senior Citizen's Center.

The governor officiated after signing the long term care act.

"We're honeymooning at Long's (Drugstore) if that tells you anything. We're probably going to  have a romantic dinner at Wright's Cafeteria so I'm not really sure, but I'm looking forward to it," Burchett said as they had a late lunch with family and friends.

Bredesen's press secretary says the ceremony was very happy and he has married quite a few couples since he's been in office.

The couple had planned to marry in September at the home of Burchett's sister but decided to take advantage of the governor being in town.

"Allison said, 'Why don't we just go and get a marriage license and let the governor marry us?'" Burchett said. "I said, 'Well, let's go!'"

Burchett says they'll have a party on what would've been their wedding day instead.
