KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Lane Kiffin took a big step to get Tennessee back to SEC Championship contention by adding 19 signees Wednesday.
Rivals.com ranked Tennessee's class of signees at No. 23, which was a dip from what analysts had expected earlier. Some had ranked UT in the Top 10 before Phillip Fulmer was fired.
Several of the signees committing to UT Wednesday hail from the Volunteer State. One future Vol, Zach Rogers of Lipscomb High School, is the brother of UT senior wide receiver Austin Rogers.
Another big catch from Tennessee is Eric Gordon, a standout cornerback from Hillsboro High School.
Gordon wasn't a surprise for the Vols, but some other players were, like Nu'Keese Richardson, of Pahokee, Fla., who originally appeared to be heading to Florida.
Another of the day's pleasant surprises was 6'3" 200-lb. linebacker Greg King of Melrose High School in Memphis. He signed with the Vols after giving Auburn and Texas Tech serious consideration.
