211 service centers nationwide, including in Knoxville, celebrated National 211 Day on Monday, February 11.
The City of Knoxville’s 311 Center for Service Innovation hosted an open house to mark the event. IN addition to operating the 311 hotline that provides residents with city service requests and information, they have also collaborated with the Community Action Committee’s Office on Aging and area United Ways to operate the East Tennessee 211 service center.
They received 12,000 calls last year from people needing assistance as well as looking to provide help for others. The number one request was housing and shelter, which includes rental assistance. Utility assistance, medical and dental services, food and legal aid were also top requests. Callers to 211 can also get connected to agencies that provide services to seniors, tax-preparation assistance, transportation assistance and volunteer opportunities.
In Knoxville, 211 operators can be reached by calling 2-1-1 or (865) 215-4211.
