If you live in Blount County and are looking for work, then you’re in luck – the Blount County Job Fair is happening later this month and business vendors are also invited to sign up.
Jeff Muir with the Blount County Partnership stopped by the WATE 6 On Your Side newsroom studio to share more information.
More than 40 employers from sectors like hospitality, outdoor recreation, medical services, telecommunications, construction, plumbing, education, AC and heating will be at the job fair offering full-time, part-time, seasonal, internship positions.
“The Blount Partnership is working with its major employers to create better pathways to those careers,” Muir said. “This is done through dual credit classes at Pellissippi State. This allows a high schooler to get an associate’s degree or the required certificates needed to go to work in their chosen field upon graduation.”
Muir also saying there’s more to a career than a traditional 4-year degree:
“We are also trying to get the message to parents about non-four year degree careers. As a society over the past 20 years, vocation or trade school has been a bad word and we changed to getting every high school student college ready. So we are trying to swing the pendulum back the other way a bit and recognizing that there is a need for carpenters, robotic operators, and may other skilled jobs that make long-lasting, well-paying careers.”
A few of the main job fields in Blount County are currently in the advanced manufacturing, construction and internet technology industries.
Businesses interested in participating in the job fair can contact the Blount Chamber at 865-983-2241.
The Blount County Job Fair is happening Thursday, March 28 at 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.in the Foothills Mall in Maryville.
