Some disasters are unavoidable, but sometimes, if we take precautions, we are able to stop a tragic event before it happens.
Knoxville Fire Department Capt. Paul Trumpore stopped by the WATE 6 On Your Side studios to remind people what precautions we all need to be taking, especially at home.
Here are some of the tips Capt. Trumpore shared:
- Never leave clothes dryers on while not at home; never dry clothes while sleeping.
- Make sure you clean your dryer vent out regularly, lent can cause dryer vent fires or clogging, cause your dryer to overheat.
- Have an escape plan in place, (E.D.I.T.H.) Exit Drill In The Home, for your family and practice these plans until everyone is comfortable executing them.
- Place smoke alarms in your home near bedrooms and on every floor. If you don’t have a smoke alarm and need one, the Knoxville Fire Department can provide one free of charge by calling 311. The County also has a similar program.
