Knoxville Opera’s Rossini Festival coming to downtown

Knoxville Opera’s 18th annual Rossini Festival International Street Fair is hitting the streets of Downtown Knoxville on Saturday, April 13.

A “legacy event,” as described by Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero, has served as Knoxville’s largest celebration of the performing arts. With a new footprint this year, the festival area includes Market Square, Krutch Park Extension, runs down Market Street and Church Avenue, with additional vendors in the Bijou parking lot and on Clinch and Union Avenues.

The public will be able to enjoy 11 consecutive hours of live entertainment on four outdoor stages featuring opera, jazz, dance, gospel, and other dynamic performances from more than 750 entertainers. Attendees can experience the YMCA FunZone on Market Square, shopping at exhibits from over 100 distinguished Artisans, and finally, sampling cuisine from a variety of food vendors. This authentic event transforms the streets of Downtown Knoxville in a European-style pedestrian street mall suitable for the entire family.

“There is something for everyone at Rossini,” said Knoxville Opera Executive Director and Conductor, Brian Salesky. “From live performances to shopping to demonstrations to a children’s fun zone to a beer garden, Rossini is East Tennessee’s unique cultural festival and celebration. It is so massive that more than 200 volunteers are needed to help produce this fantastic event. In fact, over the past sixteen years, well over 500,000 people have come out to experience the Opera’s inspiring celebration of the arts.”

Find unique performaces on the four stages:
• Pilot Flying J Opera & Choral Stage (Church Avenue)
• YMCA Dance Stage (Market Square)
• Instrumental Stage (Market Street)
• Extension Instrumental Stage (Krutch Park)

The Rossini Festival is free of charge, and goes from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
