EAST TENNESSEE (WATE) – An upcoming school supply drive from the Knoxville Dream Center is aiding elementary school teachers and you can help.
School’s out for summer, but many teachers in East Tennessee are already getting their classrooms ready for the next school year – many of them paying out of their own pocket for school supplies their students need.
Pastor John Unthank and teacher Bethany Hunt stopped by the WATE 6 On Your Side studios to share more about “Make a Teacher Smile.”
Every year, the Knoxville Dream Center runs a teacher supply drive for teachers at the title-one elementary schools we support (Pond Gap, Fountain City, Inskip, Maynard, and Norwood.
On average, teachers around the nation have to spend $500 out of their own pockets to help bring much needed school supplies into their classrooms. Furthermore, some of the schools we serve don’t even have PTAs to help out with supplies.
This year, Knoxville Dream Center will be giving supply bags to over 300 teachers.
How you can help Make a Teacher Smile:
Monetary Donation is preferred: Make a donation and Knoxville Dream Center will purchase the supplies and fill the bags for you!
It takes $40 to fill up one bag, so any amount is appreciated!
Last day for monetary donations is July 23rd.
You can make checks out to Knoxville Dream Center or go to www.knoxvilledreamcenter.org and click the “Invest in KDC” button to give! Select “Make a Teacher Supply” to designate your gift.
