Dollywood’s Great Pumpkin LumiNights welcomes famous pumpkin carver to entice guests with intricate pumpkin designs.
Marc Evan, a Brooklyn native, is leaving his mark on what he says is one of the greatest pumpkin festivals he’s ever seen.
“We have a blast here at Dollywood,” Evan said. “Every year we try to push the boundaries of what’s possible with pumpkin as a temporary art form.”
Evan founded Maniac Pumpkin Carvers as a labor of love and has since taken his artwork to a completely new level. For the past seven years, Evan and his team have featured a collection of carved pumpkins in one of the Big Apple’s most iconic museums, the Museum of Modern Art, creating pumpkin style replicas of some of the world’s most fascinating pieces of art, such as van Gogh’s “Starry Night” and Munch’s “Scream.”
However, outside of this carver’s famed pieces, he said coming to Dollywood is the highlight of his season and one of the best times to show off those pumpkins.
“Everybody is just kind of excited about pumpkins! It’s such a magical time of year, it’s a magical thing to be working with as an art medium. It’s a really unique art form because we are working on something that’s very temporary and perishable, but you can really create something beautiful with it.”
Evan said the carvings on the pumpkins are exquisite, but brightening up those pumpkins from the inside is the icing on the cake.”
“We like to put light bulbs inside of our pumpkins, so the deeper I carve, the brighter it gets and you can really get a wide range of effects and a whole range of different colors can come out, even though it’s all just an orange pumpkin.”
All of the different shades of oranges, the shapes and the faces, they’re all so near and dear to Evan’s heart.
“I get very sentimental about pumpkins. There’s really something special about the fact that they are not going to last forever. I really love that this is something that has to be enjoyed in the moment,” he said.
Before your moment slips away, make sure to get to Dollywood’s Great Pumpkin LumiNights for their annual pumpkin festival before it’s too late!
