KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Knox County deputies found three pounds of methamphetamine, a handgun and $78,000 in cash after a traffic stop on Interstate 40 near Rutledge Pike Tuesday morning.

Officers say 40-year-old Jamie Pieratt of Morristown refused to stop for officers and fled westbound on the interstate.

After a short pursuit, Pieratt stopped. As officers approached the vehicle, Pieratt fled again, existing on Rutledge Pike. In the process, he struck an officer.

Deputies fired two rounds at Pieratt, striking the vehicle.

Pieratt’s abandoned vehicle was later found behind a business on 4539 Rutledge Pike.

Pieratt was found and arrested without incident shortly after the recovery of the vehicle.

Pieratt was charged with sale and delivery of schedule II possession of firearm during commission of a felon and is now being held in the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility on a combined bond of $28,000.
