4 people dead, suspect in custody after Tenn. crash

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WATE) – A suspect is in custody after a car crash left four people dead in Meigs County.

A Tennessee Highway Patrol report says the crash consisted for three vehicles. Investigators believe John Wesley Bennett was driving southbound when his trailer detached from his truck. The trailer hit a car and a SUV.

WTVC says investigators believe Bennett drove away from the scene before leaving his vehicle and fleeing on foot. According to the report, the suspect was under the influence.

In the past, Bennett has faced charges concerning driving, assault and vandalism.

Bennett is being held at a Bradley County jail and faces charges for living the scene of an incident.
