The Knoxville Regional Transportation Organization’s I Bike KNX program is encouraging local business and agencies to take advantage of its Bicycle Rack Grant Program.
The grant provides bike parking for any business or agency at 20 percent of actual cost, which means the business will usually pay just $20 for a bike rack. One rack holds two bicycles and is easy to install into concrete. They are available in a variety of colors for no additional cost.
Pace, Knoxville’s bike share program, has increased the number of bikes being used in the city and bike racks are filling up faster. I Bike KNX says people are more likely to bike if they are confident they will find convenient and secure places to park.
The grant program has resulted in more than 700 bike racks being installed since 2004.
