Tennessee Promise is asking for people to volunteer to be a mentor in the tnAchieves program ahead of the deadline this Friday.

They still need around 1,400 mentors across the state, and over 200 of those openings are in East Tennessee.

Mentors support local Tennessee Promise applicants as they transition from high school to college, reminding them of important deadlines, serving as a trusted college resource, and encouraging students to reach their full potential.

“Anyone can be a tnAchieves mentor,” said tnAchieves Deputy Director of Outreach, Graham Thomas.  “If you have one hour per month and the desire to help students achieve their dreams, you will make a great mentor. We will train and provide you with all the information you need.  Each year our 9,000 mentors represent the heart of the program.”

Potential mentors must be 21 years of age, are subject to a background check and complete a one hour training.  For more information, or to apply, you can visit or contact Thomas at (615) 604-1306 or
