According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, “infants, toddlers and preschoolers are growing up in environments saturated with traditional and new technologies; creating hope for interactive media in young children, accompanied by fears about their overuse during an important period of brain development.”

A pediatrician-powered website that gives advice to parents is offering a template for creating a family media plan in order to be aware of media use and achieve quality time.

The application, available through a American Academy of Pediatrics-sponsored site, healthychildren.org, also offers a media time calculator to help monitor how much usage occurs.

Parents can enter their family’s information – which will remain confidential – to create a personalized family media use plan.
