National Weather Service sponsors weather spotter training class

As Seen On WATE

The National Weather Service and the UT Arboretum Society are conducting a two-hour program on the Oak Ridge campus of Roane State Community College to train weather spotters.

The class will be held on Saturday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to noon in Goff Room 107. Advance registration is required.

The NWS says this is not a storm chasing class, but rather teaches people a basic knowledge of storm structure, associated hazards and safety, as well as the importance of real-time, accurate reports to the NWS.

Spotter training classes are usually held in late winter and early spring around the state. You must fill out a form to obtain a spotter ID and certificate.
