UT student-athletes visit heart patients with heart-themed surprise

Heart patients at UT Medical Center received a heart-themed surprise, just a day before Valentine’s Day.

Several UT student-athletes from the volleyball, soccer and rowing teams visiting the patients there in a partnership with Pilot Flying J; with each patient receiving not only heart-shaped balloons, but also $50 gift cards to help offset travel expenses to and from the hospital.

“It seems like there’s a little bit of a struggle everyday, and you’re looking for just little things to make each day get a little better and a little better,” Upton said. “And so anytime anyone comes by or have these young ladies come by with just a token of appreciation with a little token or Valentine card, that just kind of lightens up the day.”
