It was beginning to look at lot like Christmas at the Tru Hotel by Hilton Pigeon Forge until someone stole a page right out of the Grinch’s playbook. Someone ran up to an inflatable Frosty the Snowman at the hotel early Friday morning and slashed it across the stomach, instantly deflating the Christmas icon.

“They came out and approached, running up to him, and then just stabbed him. No reason. Frosty did nothing to them,” said hotel general manager Melissa Keith.

A hotel guest couldn’t believe what happened either.

“There’s a little modern day Scrooge is what that little dude was,” said Dennis Swanberg.

Frosty is standing upright again, sporting his famous grin and pipe, but the Christmas icon also bears a battle wound.

“It looked like he aspirated and fell to the floor, to the ground. We discovered it the next morning. We did try to revive him. There was a bit of surgery, as you can see, but he seems to be recovering well,” said Keith.

The hotel is handling the incident in good spirits, but Pigeon Forge police say this is still a real crime with real consequences.

“It’s vandalism and it’s their property. Somebody had to pay for it, so we take that serious,” said Pigeon Forge Police Chief Richard Catlett.

If you think this will ruin Christmas for Pigeon Forge, think again.

“We’d just like for the vandals to know this is not going to ruin our Christmas. It’s certainly not going to ruin the spirit here in town for the holidays. We just want to welcome everyone in bringing in the season,” Keith said.

Hotel management says they were afraid Frosty may not make it, so they ordered a new one to take his place. The hotel was also overwhelmed by the concern for their inflatable decoration and decided to turn their tragedy into triumph and set up a GoFundMe in Frosty’s honor. All donations will go to Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic in Sevierville.
