Asheville Highway crash sends 1 to hospital


KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The driver of a truck hauling a wood chopper was injured after an accident involving four vehicles.

Knoxville Police Department said the accident happened before 8:00 a.m. at Asheville Highway near Cedar Ridge Road. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.

According to an initial investigation, police said the driver of a red Chevy pickup struck a dark colored pickup truck from behind, causing it to hit a Dodge Caliber. Investigators said a Chevy box truck hauling a wood chipper struck the Chevy from behind and ran into a ditch.

The driver of the box truck was extricated from the vehicle and transported to University of Tennessee Medical Center, according to police. A citation for driving on a revoked license is pending against the driver of the box truck. Everyone was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
