KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Maryville Police Department has located one of its K-9s after the dog had an “altercation” with several coyotes and went missing.

According to a post from MPD, K-9 “Eunice” was been located around 7:47 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21. The dog is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

“We are grateful for all the support we have received from the community and everyone who has been on the look out!” wrote the department.

According to MPD in the early morning hours of Aug. 21, Eunice’s handler removed the dog from the police vehicle to give him a relief break. Outside of the vehicle, Eunice encountered several coyotes and an altercation ensued.

Eunice was last seen chasing the coyotes in the area of Sevierville Road and South Washington Street. MPD added that after Eunice entered a wooded area and was out of sight from his handler, another violent altercation was heard.

Eunice is a dark-colored Belgian Malinois. He was wearing two collars, one of which is clearly marked “Police” when he was last seen.

While he was missing, MPD offered a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the discovery of the missing K-9.
