District Attorney General Russell Johnson decided to upgrade the charge after interviewing the victim, who remains in the hospital. Officials say Jenny Gambrell was not in a condition to be interviewed until Tuesday.

Roane County Investigator Greg Scalf also talked with other family members to get a better understanding of the events leading up to the shooting.

Gambrell is still charged with aggravated assault involving Jenny Gambrell’s boyfriend Brice Dick.

Jeremy Alexander Gambrell remains in jail on the original $50,000 bond, but that may be raised once he is arraigned on the amended charge.
