HELENWOOD (WATE) – A former Scott County sheriff’s deputy has been indicted on misconduct and other charges after TBI agents say he stole drug evidence.
Cody Scott Yancey, 25, is charged with three counts of burglary, one count of theft under $500, one count of possession of burglary tools, one count of official misconduct, one count of tampering with evidence, two counts of attempted tampering with evidence and two counts of vandalism under $500.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says it began investigating Yancey in October 2014. Agents learned that on several occasions between September 22 and October 13, Yancey allegedly made illegal entry into his department’s temporary evidence storage and took multiple pieces of drug evidence.
Agents say he also changed the lock on the evidence storage box on two separate occasions and illegally entered detectives’ offices.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office fired Yancey after learning of the allegations.
Yancey was arrested Tuesday afternoon and booked into the Scott County Jail on $10,000 bond.
