KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The City of Knoxville is lighting the Henley Bridge in rainbow colors Monday and Tuesday nights in recognition of Friday’s ruling by the Supreme Court on marriage equality.
“To celebrate the historic ruling on marriage equality by the Supreme Court on Friday, the bridge will be lit with the colors of the rainbow tonight and tomorrow night,” Mayor Madeline Rogero said on Facebook.More coverage: Same-sex marriage
The Supreme Court overturned Friday state laws around the country that prohibited same sex marriage. The Henley Bridge follows other landmarks around the nation such as the White House and the Empire State Building to be lit up in rainbow colors.
The Henley Bridge lights will change to a red, white and blue pattern Wednesday for Independence Day.
