KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Interim Knox County Schools Superintendent Buzz Thomas has requested his annual salary be reduced from $195,000 to $180,000.

A note from the school board says that since his contract, which was approved last week, does not start until June 15, there is still time to address the change. School board chairman Doug Harris says it’s not yet clear if they will have to vote on his contract again, but it is a possibility.

Thomas said he asked for the reduction in salary after further thought about his contract.Related story:Meet Knox County Schools Interim Superintendent Buzz Thomas

Thomas was chosen as interim superintendent in April after Dr. Jim McIntyre announced his plans earlier this year to step down. McIntyre’s final day will be in July, but Thomas is set to start in June to give him time to work alongside McIntyre.
