BOSTON (AP) – A jury has been seated in the federal death penalty trial of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

The panel of 12 jurors and six alternates was chosen Tuesday. Opening statements are scheduled for Wednesday.

The 21-year-old Tsarnaev faces 30 charges in connection with twin bombings at the finish line of the marathon on April 15, 2013. Three people were killed and more than 260 were injured. Tsarnaev is also charged in the killing of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer days after the bombings.

If the jury convicts Tsarnaev, the trial will move on to a second phase to determine whether he should be sentenced to life in prison or to death.

Jury selection took nearly two months.
