KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The motorcyclist killed in a crash in North Knox County Wednesday has been identified.

According to Rural Metro Fire, crews arrived at a scene of the motorcycle crash on Norris Freeway at a Walmart around 7:15 p.m.

Rural Metro said there was a fatality at the scene. Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the victim as Tamara Hensley, 36, who was driving the 2006 Suzuki GSXR.

The preliminary report says the crash happened when the motorcycle was travelling north and improperly passing a vehicle. The motorcycle swerved to avoid a vehicle turning south onto the Norris Freeway from Sam Walton Way, which resulted in the motorcycle and Hensley hitting the roadway before the motorcycle hit a curb.

Initially, crews asked the public to avoid the area. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation.
