KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — One person is dead following a pedestrian-involved crash on Dandridge Avenue near Hazen Street according to the Knoxville Police Department.
At around 4:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023, KPD officers responded to Dandridge Avenue just east of Hazen Street. On scene, officers found “an unresponsive individual who had apparently been hit by a car.”
The victim was identified as Sankinna Merchant, 43 of Knoxville on April 3.
Knoxville Fire Department and AMR personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Merchant was pronounced dead at the scene. KPD believes that she was walking on the road when the crash occurred.

KPD added that the involved vehicle is cooperating with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
