KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knoxville Police Department has released the identity of a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a car while crossing the street.

Officers responded to a reported crash with severe injuries on Western Avenue near Middlebrook Pike at 6 a.m. on November 20. According to the initial investigation at the scene, a Nissan SUV was traveling west on Western Avenue when it hit a man crossing the street.

A police spokesperson identified the victim as Curtis Lawrence, 72, of Knoxville. He was taken to UT Medical Center following the collision where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene.
