Knoxville church votes again to oust pastor who refuses to leave

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Members of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Knoxville say they want to move forward, ratifying a vote to oust their pastor.

Church members at the Dandridge Avenue church say they voted to remove Rev. Dr. Valentino McNeal in May after they say they disagreed with his leadership and administrative decisions. Despite this, McNeal refused to leave.

Members voted Monday night to ratify that decision.

“Just the way he has talked to his flock, to call us devils and demons and all those names. The congregation, we’re just tired of it. We want to have a spiritual uplifting here in this church,” said church member Juanita U. Cannon.

Members say McNeal and others covered all of the outlets and chained the doors together before the meeting, but the church hired a locksmith to cut the lock.
