KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra Association is filling the Tennessee Theatre with music. The organization is hosting two winter concerts on February 14 and February 15.
The Winter Concert will feature harpist Kari Novilla and saxophonist Spencer McDonald. Novilla and McDonald are the winners of the 2015-2016 Concerto Competition. Novilla is a home-schooled junior and a principal for the Youth Orchestra, as well as, the Oak Ridge Community Symphony. Spencer McDonald is a junior at Central High School. He is a member of Central’s marching and symphonic bands.
All of the five youth orchestras will perform. They will perform for 6-10 minutes each. The highest level orchestra, the Youth Orchestra, will perform Alexander Borodin’s Symphony No. 2 in B minor. It is the first time the group will perform an full four-movement orchestral work. The Youth Orchestra will perform on February 15 at 7:00 p.m. They are conducted by James Fellenbaum.
The concerts are free and do not require tickets. Parking in the State Street Garage is free on nights and weekends.The Winter Concert is sponsored by Richard Fox and Ralph Cianelli.
