KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – “One or more” suspects are still at large following a fatal shooting at a South Knoxville apartment complex Friday afternoon.

Knoxville Police Department personnel were working the scene of the fatal shooting in the 100 block of Ingersoll Avenue.

KPD spokesman Scott Erland saying when officers arrived on scene, they found one deceased person inside an apartment unit.

KPD adding that “one or more” suspects have not yet been apprehended by police.

“The suspects are still at large,” Erland said.

Several officers and investigators are at the scene.

Neighbors, shaken by the incident, some even afraid for their own safety.

“That scares me. Because I stay home sometimes all by myself. I’m terrified of that place up there anyway,” said nearby resident Patricia Hickson

“I’m still very surprised. Almost like don’t believe it because I didn’t hear anything. I didn’t hear any loud noises, I didn’t even hear the sirens or see anything like that,” said neighbor Dawson Davies.

The report of the shooting came in just after 3 p.m. Friday.

Erland saying Friday evening KPD will continue to search for the one or more suspects.

“Right now with it being so early, we’re just blanketing the area. Trying to find any witnesses we might have, anybody that could give us any kind of lead onto who might have committed this,” he said.

Erland also saying the investigation is still in the preliminary stages and could not confirm any further details regarding the victim.
