13-year-old taken to hospital after fire causes damage to home, SUV

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – A 13-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after firefighters responded to a house fire in the 4900 block of Oak Brook Court Monday afternoon. 

According to Knoxville Fire Department, At 3:15 p.m. Monday afternoon, units from KFD responded to the house fire and when firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage area of the split foyer.

“Firefighters quickly extinguish the flames but not before it had involved an SUV parked in the garage. A primary and secondary search for any individuals was completed by additional manpower,” KFD officials said. 

One 13-year-old male resident, who KFD said had attempted to extinguish the flames from outside with a garden hose, was sent to the hospital with mild smoke inhalation.

Arson investigators are on the scene to determine the cause of the fire. No other injuries are reported at this time. The American Red Cross will assist the family with temporary placement. 

The house is located near the Fountain City area.
