Two people were injured and several responding firefighters were treated for heat-related issues after a crash Tuesday afternoon in East Knox County.
The crash was reported around 5:30 p.m. in Andrew Johnson Highway at Kitts Road. Rural/Metro says a car crashed into a tractor-trailer just ahead of the tandem wheels, just missing the fuel tank.
A juvenile was taken to UT Medical Center, but the driver was trapped for over an hour. It took 15 members of the Rural/Metro Fire Department and the Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad to get the driver out.
Eight firefighters had to be treated for heat exhaustion. Rural/Metro says it appears neither person hurt in the crash appear to have life-threatening injuries.
