25-year sentences for three convicted of killing Powell teen over $80 pot deal

Local News

Three people received 25-year prison sentences Thursday after pleading guilty to their roles in a deadly shooting and car chase in Powell last year.

Jorge Manuel Ortiz, 21, Cameron Christopher Brewer 19, and Ortiz’s 17-year-old half-brother Justin Michael Gonzales all pleaded guilty in Knox County Criminal Court to second-degree murder charges and attempted second degree.

Each received a 25-year prison sentence for their role in a shooting that killed one man and wounded his friend during a violent car chase through Powell last year.

The three were suspected of the murder of 19-year-old Cameron Smith during a car chase over an 80 dollar pot deal.

Gonzales, who was 16 at the time of the crimes, was later charged as an adult.
