GATLINBURG (WATE) – Four trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park are closed as crews battle a wildfire near the summit of the Chimney Tops Trail.
The quarter-acre fire is within the containment area established on Sunday. The fire continues to produce a significant amount of smoke, but is mainly burning in the duff layer with flame lengths less than 12 inches.
Closed trails include Chimney Tops, Sugarland Mountain, Huskey Gap and Road Prong. They are expected to remain closed through Tuesday.Related story: Tennessee declares state of emergency due to drought, wildfires
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
