GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WATE) — Gatlinburg’s newest attraction Anakeesta announced it is opening Friday.

Visitors can experience the outdoors and many activities at the attraction.

Anakeesta starts with a scenic 14-minute ride from Downtown Gatlinburg to the summit of the mountain on a chondola. There are quad chairs and enclosed 6-person gondola cabins.

“It’s unique to have such a whimsically themed tree-house, authentic experience here in the mountains. All the activities are based up in the trees,” said Michele Canney, the Marketing Director for Anakeesta. “Once you get to Anakeesta, you get to enjoy Firefly Village.”

Firefly Village has shops, dining and seating with spectacular scenic views. From there visitors can stroll through the elevated treetop canopy walk which includes 16 hanging bridges more than 40 feet in the air. One of the most sought after attractions of Anakeesta is the zip-lining.

“Everybody has a little bit of an adrenaline junkie inside of them. And they will love the dueling zip-line. Our zip-lines allow you to zip side by side with you friend and you travel about 1,100 feet through the air,” said Canney.

If that doesn’t get your heart pounding, you can step off the ledge and take an adrenaline drop at a controlled descent through the forest.

“Our hope is that we create family memories. An authentic outdoor experience here in Gatlinburg and here in the background of the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains National Park,” said Canney.

A special tribute is also paid to the victims of the wildfires last year, with a Memorial Fire Walk on top of the mountain.

The $19.99 admission price to Anakeesta includes the chondola ride and all the activities featured on the mountain with the exception of the zip-lines. Senior and child discounts are offered.

Anakeesta will have a grand opening at 10 a.m. Friday morning for the public.
