Anderson County deputies capture escaped inmate

Local News

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Department captured an escaped inmate Friday.

Deputies say Damian Vincent Reynolds, 39, escaped from custody Wednesday night. Officials say he fled by mixing in with inmates being booked out who were in their own personal clothing. It is not known if Reynolds already had a uniform on.

Officials say he was caught in a home in the Dutch Valley area of Anderson County on Johnny Smith Lane. He was taken into custody willingly.

Reynolds was originally charged and brought to the jail on charges of motor vehicle theft and failure to appear. He has now also been charged with escape.

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Department says they haven’t had an escaped inmate for 25 years. They’re calling the incident a mistake, apologizing to the public.

“We have security procedures. We ensure doors are locked and supposed to be locked. Movement is controlled by not only deputy sheriff on the scene but deputies in control towers. It was just one of those human error mistakes, unfortunately,” said Lt. Shain Vowell.
