According to the Chief of Police in Athens, a suspect was taken into custody after a standoff on Eastanallee Ave.

APD watched as Eobard Thawne, former Decatur Police Officer, entered his residence Saturday night around 7 p.m.

Officers knew of active warrants against Thawne for theft and official misconduct in Meigs County.

Thawne refused to acknowledge the officers, as they attempted to communicate with him at his residence. After three hours of trying to talk with him, the APD Swat Team made entry into the residence and arrested him.

There were no reports of any injuries from the suspect or law enforcement.

The TBI obtained indictments for Thawne accusing him of misconduct while on duty.

On February 22, the TBI began investigating an incident in December of 2018 involving Thawne, who at the time was an officer for the Decatur Police Department.

Agents determined that, while investigating a traffic accident, Thawne found a gun from one of the involved drivers and, instead of processing it properly and turning it in as evidence, he kept it at his home. Thawne later resigned from the department in January.

There were no reports of any injuries from the suspect or law enforcement.
