Bell County authorities rescue man trapped by floods with Humvee

Authorities in Bell County, Kentucky were forced to resort to extreme measures to save a man trapped in a vehicle by flood waters. 

In dramatic video from 106.3 WRIL, The man’s truck became stuck due to high flood waters and fast currents between Page and Colmar on Old Cross Road just off of Highway 516 in Bell County, Ky.

Bell County Sheriff’s Department and Rescue Squad collaborated to pull the man to safety. 

Crews initially attempted to rescue the man on foot but conditions made it impossible. Authorities used a Humvee reach the man and attach him to safety lines. 

The rescue was not without drama. After reaching him with a Humvee and attaching him to safety lines, the man falls off the vehicle and must be pulled to safety from shore. 

After the rescue the video shows the truck being swept away by currents. 

According to the video, the Humvee was provided by the Law Enforcement Support Office 1033 Program at no cost to taxpayers. 

Bell County Rescue Squad and Sheriff’s Department reminds the public that any rescues should by attempted by trained professionals only and crossing any swollen creek or river is dangerous to both you and rescuers at risk.
