The Blount County Sheriff’s Office is warning people of a new phone scam.

Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong says it’s already conned one local woman out of $7,000

The sheriff’s office says the woman fell for a scam where a person was posing as a DEA agent going by the name of Mike Allen.

The scammer reportedly telling the woman that a car she had rented had been found in Texas with a large quantity of drugs inside.

The scammer then asking for $7,000 dollars of gift cards to avoid criminal charges.

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind people that law enforcement personnel do not ask for money over the phone.

If you get a call like this, don’t give out any personal information and hang up.
