A Blount County woman pleaded guilty on Monday to 21 counts of animal cruelty.
Deputies say in January they found animals both dead and severely malnourished inside Amy Robertson’s home. They said they had been left alone without care, food and water.
Demonstrators gathered outside the courthouse for Robertson’s hearing. Many are now owners of the animals rescued from her home.

“The only thing about animals is they don’t grow up. They’re like a baby that never grows up, and we have to take care of them and be a voice for them because they don’t have a voice,” said Traci Forsyth.
The animal activists hope the judge will seek the maximum sentence at a hearing next month.
