Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones has confirmed that the body found in the Tellico Plains mountains was that of a 16-year-old from Georgia who had been missing since March 21.

Ryan Haley, 16, from Cumming, Ga., was found dead after an organized search launched at 7 a.m. Saturday morning yielded the discovery of his body.

Members of the forestry service found clothing, a wallet and cell phone while clearing trails of debris on Friday and reported the discovery.

Emergency personnel removed his body from a creek bed in the Tellico Plains mountains on Saturday, airlifting it from a location that was difficult to access on foot.
