Thursday morning, the National Cemetery held a ceremony to honor Vietnam era veterans.
The Vietnam War Commemoration recognized all men and women who served on active duty from Nov. 1, 1955 to may 15, 1975.
To honor those who served during that time, every year from 2005 to 2025, there is an event to commemorate those who answered the call of duty.
“Those people were shunned when they came home,” says Bill Sachse, the administrative officer of the National Cemeteries of Chattanooga, Knoxville and Nashville. “…when you do honor these guys a lot of these guys you see the tears in their eyes because they’ve never been welcomed home.”
The ceremony included the presentation of lapel pins, another way to recognize the veterans for their service.
