Civic Coliseum renovations won’t bring cancellations, closures

We’re learning more about the renovation project for the Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum.

It’s been about a year since city council voted for $10 million dollars to overhaul the building. The city choosing to renovate rather than re-build or relocate the facility.

The city’s deputy chief of operations telling us the auditorium will remain open with the exception of a few weeks in September and October for stage work.

The coliseum will close for about 5 months between hockey seasons to replace the ice floor. The work schedule has been considered while booking shows at the building and the construction will not affect events there.

The city expects to make an announcement next month on specifics for the next phases of the project.
