Claiborne County High School hosts 10th-annual cancer awareness event

Local News

Claiborne County High School hosted its annual “Pink Out for Black” cancer awareness event Tuesday night to raise money for cancer research.

The event was created in memory of Karen Black, a teacher at the school who died from breast cancer. Students, teachers and community members dressed in pink during Tuesday night’s basketball game to raise awareness and money.

“It’s emotional, for sure. Karen would be humbled, for sure. Just to have her name out there and to promote breast cancer awareness in honor of her is wonderful,” said Karen Black’s sister Melanie.

The school says this was the last year of the event. The school hosted it for 10 years.
